Qatar Airways flies A350-900 on its Doha – Johannesburg route. Although there are certain Qatar Airways A359s that are equipped with Q-suites, this flight was operated with regular 1-2-1 seat configuration. These seats are comfortable, wide but lack the privacy of Q-suites and the cabin felt very open.

Business Class Dining Menu for Doha – Johannesburg
Post-takeoff drink service with warm nuts

Beverage service started just after take-off and I ordered what seemed like a mint-lemonade with warm nuts.

My dinner entrée: Coconut Chicken Curry with Dill Rice & Vegetables, Karen’s dinner entrée: Fattoush Salad (smoked aubergine, cucumber, tomato, arabic bread) with pomegranate molasses

The coconut chicken curry was very tasty. I had never been served a big chicken breast with such a curry but it cut like butter under hot knife!! The gravy was very tasty and went great with dill rice!! Karen’s entree of Fattoush salad while very tasty, was unfilling.

My dessert: Pistachio & Passion fruit Gateau, Karen’s dessert: Cheese plate

The Pistachio and Passion fruit Gateau with mango, berries and strawberries was an absolute delight!! Probably top 10 dessert I have ever had on a flight. Karen opted for the cheese plate to make up for the entree.

After dinner, I converted my seat to bed mode and went to sleep for about 4 hours. Since this is only an 8 hour flight, and there are 2 meal service, you only get about 5-6 hours sleep tops!

My Breakfast – Greek Yogurt with Mango compote, Traditional Arabic Breakfast with pita bread

Karen slept through the breakfast service but was happy to wake up completely refreshed!!

Bottomline:

Seat: ****

Service: *****

Food: *****

The only knock against this business class product was that the cabin felt too open and there was no privacy in the seat. Otherwise, the seat converted to a perfectly flat bed and the seat cushion made for a great night sleep.

The service was fantastic on this flight. I overslept and when I woke up, there was only 45 minutes to landing. The FA came by asking about my breakfast and served it promptly. The captain announcement of seat-belt going on and aircraft descent came up shortly but the FA did not rush me and I got to enjoy the breakfast in peace :).

I enjoyed both the dinner and breakfast on this flight. The pistachio Gateau for my dessert as well as the Coconut chicken curry for dinner entrée both hit it out of the park.
