Okaukuejo Camp, Etosha National Park
RW98+H7W Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo, Namibia
Okaukuejo Camp at Etosha National Park is the largest of the 6 camps, and located just 18km from Anderson Gate. To get an idea of how long it takes to arrive at the camp for same day arrivals, its 475km from Windhoek International Airport. We arrived at the airport in late afternoon and that’s why we stayed close to the airport for the night and drove next day to the camp. The camp gates operate at a strict timing and its essential for visitors to be in before the gates close.
After arriving at the camp, we went by the front office and paid our park fees for the whole stay and the safety deposit. We had booked a Waterhole Chalet and were very pleased by the location.
Okaukuejo waterhole was very productive for game viewing while just relaxing close to the room. We saw numerous rhinos at the waterhole along with various other animals. We even had lions visit the waterhole late at night and even though I had alarms set up at different times, I missed the action by an hour on both days.
Okaukuejo management operates a livecam of the waterhole 24 hours.
Okaukuejo Camp has a restaurant for folks who don’t want to self cater. In fact unless you are staying in the campground, its forbidden to self cater. The menu did not vary much but the food was delicious and the presentation was pretty good for a restaurant in the middle of nowhere!
