Flight: EVA Air BR11 from Los Angeles to Taipei
Duration: 14 hours
Aircraft: B773(Boeing 777-300ER)
Class: Business (Royal Laurel Class)
Seat: 2D – 2G (2 Middle seats each with direct aisle access)
Seat Specification: True Flat Bed, Seat pitch: 81.0 “. Seat width: 26 ”
EVA Air operates 777-300ER for three daily flights out of Los Angeles, all with the Royal Laurel Class. The Royal Laurel Class differs from the Premium Laurel in that the former has flat bed seats in 1 x 2 x 1 configuration while the later is flat bed with 2 x 2 x 2. These Premium Laurel seats have direct aisle access for every seat.
EVA Air also allows something like Singapore Airlines “Book the Cook” menu (although more limited choices). We had gone ahead and pre-booked our choices online instead of the onboard menu. For this flight I chose “Stir fried Lobster with Ginger and Green Onion sauce served with seasonal vegetable and Egg fried rice” while Karen went with “Roasted Duck with Juniper Cherry Sauce served with seasonal vegetables and Mashed sweet potatoes”.
The smoked trout and the smoked duck with jam was absolutely delicious. It just melted in mouth, sooo good!! The lobster with baby beets was just so so.
The stir fried lobster on egg fried rice was good but not something outstanding I would say. Lobster felt a little dry and the egg fried rice was nothing unique.
After a heavy dinner we laid our seat to bed mode and went to sleep. The seat cushion is really good but the mattress they provide in Business class is a bit flimsy and does not affect sleep quality either way. I slept a good 8 hours.
The sauce on the eggs benedict was right on and i enjoyed it. The ham not so much!! Karen absolutely loved the Almond croissant bread pudding.
Bottomline:
Seat: **** 1/2
Service: ***
Food: *****
EVA Air is one of my favorite carriers and I would jump at any opportunity to pick this airline to fly across the Pacific. The seat cushion is firm and good for sleep, lots of legroom and the “book the cook” option means more choices.
