MilesPointsTravel Disclaimer: This review is solely the work of Karen. I personally did not fly this segment.
Ethiopian Airlines alternates between Boeing 787-800 and 787-900 between Chicago and Addis Ababa. This outbound segment was operated using the former and featured 4 rows of angled-flat seats in 2-2-2 seating configuration. The cabin felt too open and lacked any sort of privacy.
Meal service began soon after takeoff. I was disappointed that there was no published menu for the flight and so other than the bare minimum classification of “beef or chicken” from the flight attendants, no description in detail of the food served.
They ran out of fresh fruit plate when I ordered it and instead received this.
I slept for a few hours after lunch. The seat was uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. I alternated between watching some inflight movie and sleeping. Mid-flight they served some snacks.
Before landing in Addis Ababa, breakfast was served.
This was the best crepes I’ve ever had in my life. It was that good!!
Bottomline:
Seat: **1/2
Service: ***
Food: ***
For an ultra-long haul flight clocking over 13 hours, an angled-flat seat doesn’t really cut it these days. This seat was quite uncomfortable for sleeping as it was not flat even in angled mode. Add that with 2-2-2 seating configuration, its not a good option unless you are in middle row with direct aisle access. The cabin felt too open and lacked privacy.
Service was so so and nothing special.
The highlight in meal service was the crepes for breakfast before landing. Otherwise it was average.
