Lufthansa A350-900 Business Class

Lufthansa Business product definitely lags behind the times with its 2x2x2 configuration while the rest of the industry moves towards business class having all seats with direct aisle access (1x2x1) . Although, since I was traveling with my wife, I did not particularly mind as we had the middle rows and so we both had direct aisle access.

The seats definitely lack privacy and cabin feels very open.

Lufthansa Business Class Menu
Declined some champagne and went with some nuts & soda!!

Me and Karen ordered the same items from the menu. The prawns were tasty, salmon was quite good. The best item for the meal was the dessert though. Quite delicious!!

Confit Prawns for appetizer, Salmon steak with honey and pepper glaze and wild broccoli and risolee potatoes for entree and Ice cream for dessert

After lunch, I laid out the seat in bed mode, watched a movie and went to sleep. Even though the seat is advertised as a flat bed, the padding was not that good and not very comfortable to sleep in. I did not use the additional padding provided (seen in picture). Still beats coach by a mile though!!

Seat converted to Bed

For pre-landing meal, I ordered the tuna with avocado, mango and sriracha mayonnaise while Karen went with vegetable ravioli. My tuna was quite good while Karen felt her breakfast was kind of meh.

Before Landing in LAX: Smoked Tuna with avocado, mango, sushi rice and sriracha mayonnaise for me and Vegetable ravioli with melted tomatoes for Karen

Bottomline:

Seat: ***1/2

Service: ***

Food: ****

2 x 2 x 2 configuration in Business Class is not a competitive product any longer as more and more airlines have moved to 1 x 2 x 1 with all seats having direct aisle access. However, since we were traveling as family, it was not that big issue. Also, we did choose specifically the middle row so both of us had direct aisle access.

The seats and the cabin in Lufthansa feel too open and lack privacy. I prefer where there is a center divider (when sitting next to strangers).

I did like the salmon steak for lunch and the ice cream following it was delicious. The smoked tuna with sriracha mayonnaise was also quite good.
