Cathay Pacific operates Airbus 320-200 (Version 1) in its Hong Kong – Kolkata route which features 2 rows of recliner seats in Business and rest is economy cabin. For a 4 hour flight, it mostly serves its purpose although I have been on flights of that length that had full lie-flat seats or angled flat seats on other carriers.
I was surprised when the FA’s showed up with amenity kits considering that most carriers don’t offer it for such short flights. Since there are no seat-back IFE units, the airline provides Ipads that you can place on the holders behind the seats.
I am not a big fan of salmon in appetizers where its usually smoked and still almost raw or has too much moisture. In this case however, it was well done and tasted pretty good.
The lamb on the other hand was very dry although the spice rub gave it some flavor. I skipped on the vegetables and the rice. For dessert I was offered Hagen Daaz ice cream in a cup.
After dinner I reclined my seat and took a short nap for about 2 hours. After spending 6 hours sleeping on a lie-flat seat in previous flight, a recliner seat was just not up to the task this time !!
Bottomline:
Seat: ***
Service: ***
Food: **
I gave the seat 3 stars only because it was ok for a short flight of 4 hours. It is better than coach obviously but underwhelming for business class.
The service was pretty good as there were only 2 rows of business class seats and enough FAs to cover it. My FA was nice enough to move my seat mate to the row behind because it was empty.
The food left much to be desired when it came to dinner entree. The lamb was just too dry.
