EVA Air operates 777-300ER for three daily flights out of Los Angeles, all with the Royal Laurel Class. The Royal Laurel Class differs from the Premium Laurel in that the former has flat bed seats compared to the Angled Flat seats in the latter. These seats are in reverse herringbone 1 x 2 x 1 configuration with direct aisle access for every seat.
The reverse herringbone pattern provides plenty of privacy for each seat. In fact its funny that Karen prefers the old style 2 x 2 x 2 style seating as it usually contains less space between the adjoining seats which she prefers when we are traveling together.
Before takeoff we were handed the Rimowa amenity kits and pajamas.
When we were handed the menus, I chose Pan Fried Cod fillet for my main course while Karen chose wok fried chicken with cashew nuts.
Both the pepper prawns and scallops were delicious.
I liked the pan fried cod well too. Usually the cod is a hit or a miss but in this case it ended up being much better than what it looks in the picture.
After dinner, I laid out the seat to bed as I didn’t want to waste any time watching movies. It was going to be a long time before I was getting on a plane with flat bed seats again and so wanted to make the most of it by enjoying a good night sleep. 🙂
The blankets really are the best quality we have ever seen on a business class so far. They were thick but soft and felt great to sleep in.
After sleeping for about 7-8 hours, I woke up and played around with the inflight entertainment system and soon it was time for breakfast.
I opted for the Beef Shepard’s pie and it was the first time I had ever had it. Surprisingly it was quite tasty and I loved it.
Bottomline:
Seat: *****
Service: ***
Food: ****
I really like the seat. Its long, comfortable and an excellent choice for long transpacific flights. The food on this leg of the journey was very good too. The service was ok. One thing I had noticed that the cabin crew do not attempt to wake up the passenger if they appear to be sleeping. Some passengers may prefer that but unless I have actually instructed the crew to not wake me up for meals then I would expect to be gently nudged at least once. Karen was sleeping and I noticed that the crew skipped her over completely and only after I requested the flight attendant to wake her up did the flight attendant do so.
