Flight:  Singapore Airlines SQ 516 from Singapore to Kolkata

Duration: 4 hours 5 minutes

Aircraft: A333 (Airbus 330-300)

Class: Business

Seat: 11 A (Bulkhead Window)

Seat Specification: Angle Lie Flat, Seat pitch: 60.0 “. Seat width: 24.5 ”

I landed in Changi International Airport after my flight from Haneda around 1 PM. I had no plans to go out of the airport this year. I had already taken the Free Singapore Tour twice over the past decade, once with Karen. Last year we also ventured out on our own and visited the Marina Bay Sands hotel, the location of the highest infinity pool in the world !! This time I was just going to relax and sleep at the lounge.

Silverkris Lounge (Business Class) – Changi Airport
Silverkris Lounge is huge !!
Different kinds of food available from noodle to kimchi to paneer to barbecued chicken
Pakoras and Paneer (cottage cheese) masala

There were plenty of dining options available at the lounge. I was excited to see some paneer masala and mutton curry in between the various dishes from around the world. I had generous servings of both and soon I was full. 🙂

Mutton Dopayaji, rice and noodles

I slept for quite a while after lunch and after some duty-free shopping it was time to board the flight.

There are 30 Angle Lie Flat seats in this A330 cabin with 2 x 2 x 2 configuration.  I had flown this type of aircraft by Singapore Airlines four times last year (Singapore – Kolkata, Singapore – Male – Singapore and Singapore – Incheon) and Haneda – Singapore on this trip. Just like the previous flight, I had booked 11A (bulkhead) for this segment. However, since its a fairly short flight at just under 4 hours, I was probably not going sleep much.

Dinner service started soon after takeoff.

Shrimp appetizer

I had already pre-booked the main course using the “Book the Cook” service and had chosen the “Lobster Thermidor”. I have previously flown on 2 flights with “Book the Cook” service and Karen also had this same dish on our previous years trip to Maldives.

Lobster Thermidor (sorry for the bad picture)

Sorry for the bad picture. Karen took a much better picture from Maldives trip.

Mango Icecream

After dinner, I spent the rest of the flight just chatting with a very interesting gentleman seated next to me.

Bottomline:

Seat: ****

Service: ***

Food: ****

The seat is pretty wide and for a 4 hour flight angled-flat is more than sufficient. In fact, there are plenty of airlines that operate just recliners for this little distance..

As far as service goes, the crew was average on this flight. Its a pretty short flight and I can understand them not checking up on passengers too frequently.

The lobster was fantastic and definitely one of the best instances of airline food I’ve had. The icecream was delicious too.
