MilesPointsTravel Disclaimer: This review is solely the work of Karen. I flew on Business Class on this flight.
This flight happened to be a couple of first’s for me. First time on Qantas, first time on an Airbus 380 aircraft. I had experienced Singapore Airlines First Class (Hong Kong -San Francisco) and Thai Airways First Class (Bangkok – Sydney) so was excited to have a chance to compare with them.
This was by far the roomiest first class I have traveled in compared to the other two before. Although its not a fully enclosed suite, it feels very private.
The seat faces forward during take-off and landing and swivels during flight so you can use the ottoman while watching tv.
The amenity kit is of pretty high quality and I still use it to store makeup and travel essentials.
I started off with a screwdriver and some canapes. Next up was Vietnamese prawn salad with mango and vermicelli noodles. This dish was the best item I had in this flight. It was super delicious.
My first choice from the First Class entree menu was not available by the time the flight attendant came to take my order and the remaining choices did not appeal to me. The FA then gave me the lamb option from the Business Class menu which was fine with me.
After lunch, I walked around the cabin checking out the different sections. There is an on-board lounge which was pretty much empty throughout the flight.
By the time I got back to my seat, the stewardess had already made my bed. I ended up having a good 8 hour sleep. The bedding was really comfortable.
When I woke up about a couple of hours before landing, the flight attendant served me some coffee.
The fruit salad was really delicious. The bacon on the other hand was not so good (not a big fan of mushy bacon)
Bottomline:
Seat: *****
Service: ** 1/2
Food: ***
The service on this flight was not even that great by business class standards let alone First Class. I was not impressed by either the friendliness or the enthusiasm of the flight attendants. They seemed to be going through the motions pretty much most of the flight.
The seat was very comfortable. Even though the Qantas first class features open suites, it was still very private, especially the left row as they have exclusive access to the left aisle while the middle row and right share the right aisle.
The dining options on the flight were disappointing given that I did not even get the option that I wanted !! The only silver lining was the awesome Vietnamese prawn salad.
