Flight: Thai Airways TG 313 from Bangkok to Kolkata
Aircraft: A333 (Airbus 330-300)
Class: Business
Seat: 14 E, Middle Aisle
Seat Specification: Recliner, 138 degree recline, Seat pitch: 50 “. Seat width: 20 ”
Thai Airways operates an Airbus 300 on this short-haul route between Bangkok and Kolkata. The flight time is only around 2 hours 30 minutes so a recliner seat gets the job done here.
Right after boarding, I was offered pre-departure beverage of orange juice/grape juice/water. No champagne? Bummer !!
Karen: They offered us champagne for pre-departure beverage. Maybe the wheels came off the wagon on my husband’s flight.
Next came the menu card. I selected Lamb curry and saffron rice (sorry no pictures).
Karen: I selected the cod filet with mango salsa.
Karen: The garlic toast was really good. I am not a big fan of duck but otherwise it was good. The shrimp and scallops were standard.
Next up was my entree. The lamb was really good and I enjoyed the rice with it. There was also a chickpeas preparation (“Chhole”) that I liked.
Karen: I was really disappointed. The potatoes were under cooked and preparation of the fish left a lot to be desired. It was just too greasy and I was not happy about my selection.
A little bit of channel surfing in the AVOD followed by a short nap at the comfortable recliner seats. The screens are pretty small at 6.5″.
While these recliner seats are not as comfortable as the angle-flat seats I had in ICN-BKK segment on Thai, with the flight time being short, I did not mind.
Bottomline:
Seat: ***
Service: ***
Food: ***
There was nothing truly outstanding about this flight. The recliner seats did the job all right but there was nothing “aspirational” about it. The metal footrests at the bottom of the seats looked cheap.
The food was so-so and I would expect the grub to be a lot better in business class.
The service was pretty mediocre.
All in all, I was not that impressed. But its still a lot better than the best coach experience in any other airline.
