Thai Airways operates a Boeing 777 for ICN to BKK mid-haul route. There are a total of 30 business class seats with 2 x 2 x 2 configuration.

Me and Karen both flew this flight separately about 2 weeks apart.

Generous seat pitch for mid-haul flight

Right after boarding, the cabin crew were offering champagne for pre-departure beverage. I opted for an orange juice since I had a few drinks at the Asiana lounge earlier.Karen: They also offered dinner menu and took orders for drinks post-takeoff.

Seat 16 A on the left

The business class section was fairly empty, there were several unoccupied seats (so much for free upgrades to coach ticket holders!!).

Clamshell type seats

We were offered hot towels which was nothing extraordinary, except that they offered them 3 times during a flight of 5 and half hours. They offered it before takeoff, right after takeoff and then before landing. I couldn’t be any cleaner !! 🙂

Karen: One amenity that stood out was the blankets, they were quilt style, warm and cuddly.

Business Class Cabin

The AVOD screen was pretty small. It didn’t matter because I was planning on sleeping right after dinner.

Small IFE screen

The cabin crew served dinner right after takeoff. I requested Grilled Pomfret for the main course.

Karen: I chose Panang curry (chicken) for the entree.

Menu card

For appetizers, they served something called Prawn balls. Well, it sucked!! It was like a breaded prawn with the outer shells texture the consistancy of fried uncooked rice. Highly diappointing. Very hard to chew on and the uncooked rice ruined the flavor of the prawn.

Karen: I didn’t care for smoked salmon as it was too moist for my taste. I did however love the crunchy shrimp rolls.

Smoked Salmon
Smoked salmon and some greens (Karen)

My main course of Grilled Pomfret was extremely delicious. The fish was grilled to perfection and the sauce complemented the texture and flavor of the fish very well.

Karen: The panang curry was quite flavorful.

To close out the dinner, I had some cheese and crackers for dessert.

mmm…shrimp rolls (Karen)

Angled flat seats (still very comfortable)

After dinner I decided to sleep for 3-4 hours. I used the panel on the arm rest to change the seat to angled bed. I must say that although i have read several reviews from flyers who hate angled flat seats in Lufthansa or Air France Business class because they feel they are constantly sliding down, it did not feel the same here. When the seat converts to a bed, even though its a bit slanting, your feet enter into a console in the seat in front of you and you never feel like you are slipping down. However, it does feel more comfortable sleeping on your side than your back on these seats.

Bottomline:

Seat: ****

Service: ****

Food: ****

The seat even though angle flat doesn’t feel as bad. I never felt like I was slipping down due to the angled seat.

The food and service was as good as I had experienced in earlier trips whenever traveling Thai Airways. The cabin crew always pay a lot of attention to the travelers (even in coach) and it really makes a difference in the overall experience.

Karen: I was not too impressed with the service by Thai cabin crew on this flight. The cup of tea that I had at the beginning of the flight was still on the tray table long after I had slept and woke up and it was removed only just before landing.
